Maryland Wing concludes weekend long search and rescue exercise

8/26/2018 – Hagerstown, MD.- Maryland Wing Civil Air Patrol concluded a successful weekend search and rescue exercise. Eighty-five members from across the state conducted operations in three areas: Hagerstown, Westminster and Jug Bay just outside Bowie. This was a task-based exercise, focusing on completing qualifications for trainees and honing the skills for qualified members.

Aircrew members flew 31 hours completing 18 sorties. Capt. Brent Hippert from the Glenn L. Martin Composite Squadron completed his mission pilot checkride during one of the sorties. Two crews flew an airborne repeater around Westminster to aid in communications between teams.

An additional fifteen members supported two Incident Command Posts. The mobile ICP was used at Hagerstown Regional Airport. The mobile ICP is a joint venture with the 175th Air National Guard and can be relocated to anywhere in Maryland on short notice.
